Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)in pregnancy

Many unanswered questions about  screening, diagnosis & treatment of OSA in pregnant people

Nasal congestion is common in pregnancy and may impact adherence to CPAP treatment.

Assess pregnant people at high risk for OSA:

  • BMI higher than 30

  • chronic hypertension

  • pregestational diabetes

  • gestational diabetes in a prior or index pregnancy

in the first or second trimester for symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing (loud snoring, nocturnal gasping or witnessed apneas, or daytime sleepiness or excessive fatigue). Use home sleep apnoea testing rather than overnight pulse oximetry.
